Alternatively you can sew on 2" webbing ALICE style and use ALICE pouches. Or just got full tacticool and use molle. Only issue is sewing that will be difficult because of the angle.
Google G hooks. Using some of those and modified molle pouches you could very easily attach some with minimal sewing. and they'd pop right off. I would suggest a strap across the bottom if you do that (think a belt, securing the pouches on both sides)
