I followed your advice ("level" setting was at -6dB but I don't know if that makes a difference since <AUTO REC> was off) in terms of settings and was able to record a 25 minute clip near a pond. I was expecting a lot of ducks to be there like when I was there just last week but unfortunately only a few were present. I also had to deal with a noisy prop plane buzzing around every so often (and a jet toward the end) and some housewives who were on the trail nearby and talking loudly for a few minutes. I guess this means I have to go further /out/ to get a more "natural" ambiance.
Nonetheless, I did get quite a few different birds recorded, including acorn woodpeckers, black phoebes, ravens/crows, what I think was a killdeer, and some assorted waterfowl. This was my first time recording and I would like to get better at this so if possible please give me any feedback on how to improve, and how to edit my files to improve the sound quality. What's the best/easiest program to use for that? Thanks for listening.
