That's not to say a human life is not worth more than a moths but there is something important to be said about rarity and preservation. And there will always be an excuse to tear up a plot of land. If every time you say "well what is this piece of nature compared to the human need?" Then you are out of nature pretty quickly.
On the flip side of that you can argue that human needs are better satisfied by having nature than by having more coal or oil or lumber. It offers an irreplaceable psychological service
