I want to get out to my cabin in central Maine for a couple days, but the logging roads that go near my cabin are under 2 feet of snow, I would have to hike 10 miles from where they stop plowing. And I'm not that hard core.
So I realistically my only option is a half mile hike across the lake. And all of my local contacts up there are away for the holidays, so I have no one up there to tell me if it's safe to cross yet.
And it's a 500mile drive, so if I just go and find it's not safe to cross... I would probably have to take a 4 mile hike around the lake, but I don't have any snow shoes.
