I looked again the pic I sent before and it looks as if the spikes were different, I found another pic where the spikes are on the same end of the handle and they too look different.I'm beginning to doubt my own theory about inserts but here it is:
A) One spike = you can rest the handle against it.
B) Two different spikes on the same end = Handle stays upright position but can be moved a little to the other side to help filling the kettle.
C) A different spike on each end = Same as B, but you can have A if you remove one insert.
