>>2536833>HéraultAyy I'm from there. Made the previous post about Montpellier
Not surprised your parents joined the ever growing ranks of northern retirees kek. After all I was born there because my own parents left flat and cold (well for our standards lol) northern France for the south
I still absolutely love the flatter part of France but objectively there's more outdoors to be had in the southern half. Not rocket science the topography is simply more complex
European /out/ is great when one is also interested about history and stuff. Yeah no true wilderness but I don't mind the goal of my hike being the local castle ruins, a hilltop medieval chapel, a Roman bridge, a megalithic site and whatnot because I'm as passionate about these things as I am by a nice forest or mountain. If anything it enhances my experience by really grounding me in the landscape and feeling the weight of everyone that lived there before me
As far as laws are concerned we have less liberty than Scandis do but I've never ever seen a ranger or anyone enforcing anything. I don't doubt they're more active in national parks core zones but I never had any issue finding quiet spots in "irrelevant" mountains like Caroux-Espinouse, Montagne Noire, Corbières ranges and others.
