I grow peppers, tomatoes, alpine strawberries and sunflowers and I'll start the nightshades and strawberries plants inside, but germinate the sunflowers outside. A sunflower sprout is big enough and grows quickly enough it's harder for a slug or cutworm to instantly destroy the seedling.
