Hike crown mountain if you don't want to go too far from the city, it's pretty beautiful.
Also, check out Bowen island / other gulf islands, they have less elevation to the hikes but you still get good views, and they have some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Hitchhiking is also huge on the islands, so if for any reason you don't have your rental car there don't worry, it's second nature to everyone there, and a great way to meet interesting people. I met a dude who ran a dynamite business and people who offered to take me on their sailboats and sail around the islands. Pic related, I took that on Pender island.
Also check out Vancouver island, there are some gorgeous places there as well. Go surfing in Uclulet, go to the brewery in tofino, or go up the coast of the island and check out the small towns and old growth.
