Hiking by myself.
Everything is fine, cool day in March; about 80-85 F.
Suddenly I see a dust storm rolling in. A wall of black cloud moving across the desert toward me. It looks like the end of the world coming at me. I'm on top of a rock maybe 200 ft above grade. Start climbing down. It's moving a lot faster than I am. As it is almost on top of me I find a nice wide crack to snuggle into. There is a cat in it. I dont know what kind; spotted and the size of a small dog. I find another crack. just as I feel sand hitting my face. i squeeze in facing into the rock. It hits and I can feel pebbles and stuff bouncing off my back. I can also feel little things crawling around on me.
Stay still and pray for like 15 minutes and suddenly it's gone. Totally gone.
I pull myself out and check my gear. Where's my water?
I get to the ground and head for the nearest sign of civilization. I find a Dude ranch in about 2 miles. The bar is open and I get a glass of water and tell the bartender what just happened.
He politely tells me I'm an idiot.
I told him I already know.
