Your state geological survey should be able to help you out. If there are any spots for cool minerals they'll know about it.

Pic related are some sapphires and topaz stones I sieved out of a creek in Tasmania. Got them cut for ~$40 in Thailand.

Tasmanian here. Panned a couple flecks of gold on the beach at Doctors Rocks near Burnie in NW Tasmania just yesterday.

Regularly go gem fossicking in the NE of the state for sapphires and topaz. Recently got a few cut (see pic attached).

Check your state or territory geological survey website, they usually have instructions and maps on what to find and where to find it. Use YouTube for techniques and get necessary items from ebay. Good luck!
