In many ways nature is the perfect antidote to the sometimes harsh reality of modern human life. But, nature is also indifferent and harsh at time, he was maybe willingly blind to this latter aspect and ultimately died as a result.
But, you know, I have respect for him. He worked hard to be able to spend time in nature and to learn about himself, even if he was running away from society rather than to nature (... this is a grey area).
I don't hate on the guy, but, it is a shame that he allowed a friend of his to share his tragic fate.
By the way, from the film, I absolutely love the final scene with that great pilot talking and then singing....
