>>563820From what I understand you can get permits to camp during hikes in the backcountry for one or more days but I don't think you can just set up a camp with a fire and everything on the trail and operate from there, it's just for sleeping. I camped for free in BLM land outside the park, once a few miles up Kolob Res. Road next to the creek and the next next to Kolob Reservoir itself, it's free, beautiful, and empty even during the summer but there are no bathrooms or anything so you have to be self contained. All the regs and permits for backcountry hikes are confusing, just call them and let them know what you want to do and they can tell you the deal. They may not issue permits for some hikes in December if they are covered in snow. Here's where I camped next to the reservoir.
