Probably wouldn't be here today if it weren't for protective gear. Helmet, vest, shoulder pads, elbow pads, armored shorts, knee braces, boots...
Most of my sledding's backcountry/boondocking, although I do a little racing too.
Not much in the way of abandoned train stuff that i'm aware of... One of the areas I ride sleds, the train tracks (abandoned decades ago) are rideable with enough snow and connect two riding areas (~4 miles) that'd be about 20 miles to go around. Can't go up/over because cliffs. Haven't ridden there in 5 years though.
