I feel like you don't need to spend $250 when you're just trying to see if you like fishing, you could always get a cheapo one and buy a nicer one when you start to figure stuff out.
I will defer to anyone in this thread who is actually knowledgeable about fishing though, if they have reasons that that's a bad idea
