But also no, in that you and your gear are more exposed to the elements/bugs. a decent tarp and bug net will mitigate most of that though. Strong recommend for a hammock bug net

Turns out it's a surprisingly great backpacking tarp for both overhead cover and ground cover. Shit looks, and is, cheap, but I've used it on every backpack outing for like 2 years (and i'm basically a hobo)
