>>1948355You’ll be relegating your child to a life of poverty. The state has very little upward mobility, with oil production being the most dominant industry (which has been on a steady decline since fracking and tar sand extraction have become cheaper than offshore drilling). That’s followed by tourism (like the Second World), which has collapsed due to covid restrictions.
The schools are atrocious unless you live in the exurbs. Cities, suburbs, and rural areas all have absolute shit tier schools.
Crime is really bad in negro areas, which is every city, and larger town, but many rural areas as well, though obviously outside of towns it’s not as bad.
The weather is complete shit. You’ll never acclimate to the cold. Even people who visit for a week say that it feels extra cold and everyone blames the humidity (it’s acclimation). It’s the most uncomfortably hot state in the country, pic related.
The city of New Orleans, as mentioned, is the most financially dominant area. It is currently collapsing due to tourism being non-existent and a decades-long brain drain. My wife and I left several years ago, and we found out about a flood that happened last year because the city didn’t fix its drainage pumps. So critical infastructure in Louisiana’s richest city is so poor that a seasonal rain storm caused millions of dollars in flood damage, and the city government at first denied anything was wrong.
Hurricanes are always a threat. They’re mostly over blown, but have the potential to literally destroy everything you have. Tornadoes as well. The entire lower half of the state suffers from street flooding.
The people are friendly, the food is the best in the country, and hunting and fishing is top notch. The cost of living is low but so are salaries. Housing and land are cheap, even just outside of cities. The cities are small; from rural areas to NOLA is an hour, hour and a half with traffic.
