I drilled out a hole just smaller than the hexagon, soaked the wood in water for a while, and then used a rubber mallet to whack it on there.
After that, I let the wood dry, and when I took the bit out, the wood stayed in shape.
I figured I would try it after seeing a few people manipulating wood with water on a youtube video about making wooden puzzles.
