Shittiest Dunhill on eBay update:
It finally came in after being lost in shipping for the better part of a month. Opened the box and it was already cleaned and ready to go. The guy I bought it from threw in some samples of Penzance and Stonehaven for me. I’m a happy Anon right now.
The condition issues mentioned earlier are there. The shank has definitely been repaired so a lot of the coveted Dunhill stampings are worn off, but the repair was done well and it’s solid. It’s a smoker’s grade pipe, so that’s how I’ll use it.
Just put it through its first couple of bowls, and it’s a nice experience all around. I can now officially say that a Dunhill is not magic, but every aspect of smoking it is just…really good.
>>2152845Used pipes are okay, as long as you make sure they’re cleaned out. They’re a great way to get REALLY high quality stuff for less money than you otherwise would.
I’ve gotten meerschaums, Charatans, GBDs, Comoy, Chacom, Sasienis, Petersons and now a Dunhill used at prices I wouldn’t have been able to touch had I bought them new. It’s how I’ve got over 90% of my collection.
Wear from use isn’t bad, or at least it doesn’t scare me as long as it’s not work out or burned out. Old pipes are going to have been used, they’re going to have wear.
Cracks are different, especially if it’s in the bowl. A crack that goes through the bowl and i don’t care how rare or valuable it used to be. Suddenly it’s worthless to me, and into the trash it goes.
