anyway guys, i think i may have found the perfect ultralight sleep system, which has the best weight per warmth performance, and is coincidentally low cost
i will be testing the regular SOL bivvy model pictured here (not the escape model) with a few modifications up in 10k altitude this summer with 30-40F summer nights
basically my system is just an SOL bivvy lined with synthetic "tech silk"
and also maybe a small hole or flap carved into the SOL bivvy for some basic breathability, to prevent massive condensation.
the hole only needs to be less than an inch wide, and somewhere in the middle of the SOL bag. im thinking of just punching a gromet through, then putting a small disk of sticky tape to act as an adjustable simple valve, where i can control its size.
the silk liner seems to be the perfect combo with this, which absorbs moisture, is extremely light weight and has great thermal properties
total weight of bivvy+liner = just over 8oz
and im guessing this will provide comfortable sleep in 30F when combined with the thermal L1 and L2 layers of underwear im wearing + any possible additional clothing if needed
also a chemical hand warmer can provide additional heat in emergency situations, and i would imagine working extremely well inside a fucking heat reflective sack - as a backup precaution
i can most likely tune my gear and drop a single piece of L2 layering, or perhaps both pieces, if need be
THOUGHTS?
