>what makes it betterCarbon fiber content. and the diameter of the blank and the tip. Pic related. There isn't a single manufacturer in the states or outside of japan that can make a UL rod tip below 2.0mm. This makes an immense difference in sensitivity.
Most American companies do not even make their rods here in the states, they are made in China. Not only this, but because the nature of the fishing industry in America, the idea is being cheap. They use more fiberglass which means more material. This means UL rods will be not only heavier, but this extra material will require a thicker tipped rod. Not only this, but the more fiberglass you have in a blank, the slower action you are going to have. I've owned everything from St. Croix to G loomis UL rods and every single one of them feels spaghetti compared to a 99% Carbon fiber rod from Japan.
