Any advice for snook & tarpon?
Here’s the environment: lock right down the street makes canal behind house brackish, let’s snook and tarpon and occasionally jack in. There will also be needlefish and occasionally crabs but I don’t see those often or think I’d Manda to catch either, which sucks because crab would be perfect bait. If from my backyard it’s hit or miss they make it that way.
If I go into an adjacent area next to my house, a park, that’s where they usually hang out. However there’s a wall and the grass doesn’t meet the water meaning if I catch one, I’ll probably only be able to get at best a 20lb fish out of the water.
I’m not sure what to do or how to plan this because the lock opens whenever the fuck it wants. Only way to tell is if the water is flowing a certain direction. It’s not a daily thing, and it doesn’t happen at any set time as far as I know or could find out from research earlier.
I’ve managed to hook a tarpon using a sun fish as bait and it snapped my line immediately.
I can rig some 50lb test to an 8’ rod, get shiners or use sunfish as bait. But I’m a little lost on what my move is. Do I chance the park area with the wall, or do I stick to my backyard where getting either a snook, jack, or tarpon on land would be easier?
I assume rig wise I just circle hook with an okay egg weight so my bait fish chills a foot or so off the bottom?
Pic unrelated it’s all I’ve caught since getting consistent with fishing again.
