Norwegian here.
Norway has a pretty inhospitable climate. If you plan on wilderness hiking, you need to know what you're doing, especially in the winter. People die here every year due to exposure or avalanches. Lots of places without cell phone coverage, so if you're hiking during the winter above the arctic circle and your headlamp battery dies, you will freeze to death in the darkness as the sun stays below the horizon all day.
There are of course less dangerous trails, parks etc, but do not expect things like park rangers (we don't have those here) to stop you from heading out into the wilderness unprepared. Where in Norway are you going to work?
My advice is to make friends with a norwegian and tag along with them on a hike. If you're antisocial there are a lot of great trip planning resources at
ut.no, the norwegian tourist associations official map.
Pic is from Langsua national park last october.
