Ignore the defeatists, while building codes and regulations are a thing you'll come to find when you actually put boots to the ground they aren't as bad or the people that are supposed to enforce them are lazy fucks who won't ever actually set foot on your property. Which finding property that is a nice compromise of your wants and needs (might need to give some shit up in lieu of having more favorable something else) is 90% of the battle, and once again if you're willing to put boots on the ground rather than just browse properties online you'll find a lot of people are willing to work with you if you're a decent human being, I got my property of 35 acres for 3k down and a handshake, way less than the down payments most people want when you look online.
One of my friends across town is doing a strawbale house, and it's turning out amazing so far with not a ton invested... I say not a ton invested because they aren't antisocial autistic fucks who sperg on 4chan and actually have favors throughout town they can call on (building party for hippies as bank shill said earlier). The timbers in pic are from their property, but through connections was able to get a crane to do all the framing with the timbers through workshare. Also before some fucktard takes my post as advice to ignore building codes and state regs... you're on your own. I still had to shill out 4k for a septic, but it's never been used in the three years we've had it, just needed to do it so we could continue working on everything else, you take the bad with the good and the good with the bad.
