One of the most important qualifications was ability to be in the woods no matter what the conditions. I've tapped in blizzards, below 0, rain, etc.
Im in Northern Vermont, and I know a few places hiring. $14-18 an hour is pretty standard.
It's tough work, no doubt. All terrain, all conditions, carrying a variety of different types of gear, depending on the job, snowshoes a lot of the time. Most of the time you are alone, and getting high numbers is important. Good tappers, around here at least, are 400+ taps a day. I love working outside though, and enjoy quiet winter solitiude.
