Eureka Solitaire with aluminum poles.(Canadian model?) on sale for 70$ 5/6years ago. my first and only tent besides whatever I used as a kid with family.
I also picked up some aluminum ground stakes to replace the awful steel ones it came with and a 3L dry bag to stuff it into.
It's been really good/fun no complains besides its not freestanding? I honestly don't know if it would matter as it's the only tent I've used and it's decently quick to setup and take down.
it is a bivi style tent but im fairly small framed and 5.8 ish so i can sit crosslegged and hunched over inside at the high point and read etc
but after spending a day stuck in it during a heavy rain and realizing I had no awning or anything to cook under etc i picked up a Woods backpacking tarp from Canadian tire (Amazing value for 25$ fyi) the tent does also have a very nice deep bathtub floor that saved my ass when I was dumb enough to pitch it super close to a river..
The yellow is surprisingly not bright and closer to a faded golden dry grass shade
I did some city park camping and it blended in quite nicely with Ontario spring/summer colors and was invisible from 30ft away on a bike path
I quite like my broke dude setup and it's around 3.5-4 lbs for the tent, poles, stakes, tarp&ridgeline and the whole setup even the poles-(bit tight so I don't) fits in one of the 7L MEC cargo side molle style pouches they sell.
I highly recomend it depending on what you're looking for.
I have been looking at MECs newish Spark series the 1p looks decent for a freestanding backpacking tent but for $300 I might as well get an older MSR?
Definitely open to suggestions for something taller and freestanding 1p backpacking style
