>>1703932Chickens are easy to keep out/in with normal cheap netting, no electric needed, so long as there's no fly-over opportunities. Raccoons need to be completely bared. Normal electrical fencing simply won't work since they can often find ways around it. So, electric netting is a better alternative since it prevents them from squeezing through many places. The only drawback is where the fence meets the ground. You'll need to have some sort of barrier there so that the live section of the fence doesn't touch the ground and short out while keeping the raccoons from going under. Also, make sure the posts are on the inside and that the insulators, if any, are also covered with electrified metal in some manner. I've seen young raccoons get over fences using the post in the most acrobatic manners.
Remember, the fence must be properly setup so there's some grounding wire and live wire near each other so the pest animal touches both to get shocked or touches the ground and live wire to get shocked. If the entire fence is nothing but live wire than a raccoon can just hop up on it without touching the ground and get over the fence without a shock in most situations.
