FOX ATTACK!
I lost 4 ducks last night (Batches 1 & 2; top pic) when a fox or two wedged themselves under the welded wire fencing (breaking it some). 2 ducks are injured (older duck in middle pic). Something else also attacked the ducklings in Batch 3, but was unable to get to them. It did tear up the feeder a bit, but I was able to bend it straight again.
The chicken coop floor space is a bit small, but tonight I'll be packing in every bird I have into it and setting traps out. I spent nearly all the money I was going to use for more traps on duck feed (200lbs of feed!) and extra cage materials. I just ordered a leg trap and a couple dozen snares. You can see some of the damage to the welded wire fencing in the bottom pic and where the ducks were taken off into the next field. I'll put the Conibear trap there tonight.
Right now, I have 40 ducks/ducklings left from this year's hatching, 5 Pekin adult ducks, 1 Muscovy duck (its mate disappeared last week with no trace), 1 turkey, and 10 chickens.
Score so far:
Predators & Varmints: 13 ducks
Farmer: 14 raccoons, 1 opossum (fed to ducks), 1 very tasty rabbit.
