If youve never been, I guess you can start with the falls, maybe walk down the road and look at half dome if you didn't see it good enough from the bus.(sit on drivers side).
I would recommend for a quick hike, go down the trail for mirror lake, but at the bridge, head down creek on the south side. There's an unmarked trail and there was no one in sight when I went down it, but obvious signs it's well traveled. There's a fallen tree about 200ft in if you are unsure you found it.
When I went, there really wasn't that much traffic, took 30min to clear the exit line but it went quickly just after the lodge. No issues getting there either up 120, except for passing some fagit in a Ford club or whatever doing 20 up the steep bit(my car stronk).
As for kit, didn't bring food, and I carried a 1gal water jug, military style. Plan for lots of sunlight and hot temperatures if it will be the same as when I was there.
