Even in California you can take 2 of each species a year with a fishing permit, including kings or rosy boas.
Also depending on state, it might be illegal to kill ANY non-venomous species.
I pulled a rat snake out of a friend's mom's chicken coop yesterday. Dropped it off outside of town at an abandoned business park.
Had to go over again at 7 this morning because she had a timber in her yard (pic related).
Finishing up skinning it now. It was a rabbit if anybody is curious.
