>>1640955If you ever do farming, raising animals that is, and need to butcher animals, always make sure you raise/buy at least a dozen of them. The higher the number there is the less effect it will have on your psyche. This is because you don't psychologically project upon them as you would with only 1-3 animals. In fact, there's a threshold where you are finally like, "you god damn sonofabitches had better be tasty, because this was a lot of fucking work!" I think that is somewhere around 50 animals for me.
>>1640957>I didn't know about their miserable lifeThat's really only in places where they are kept in miserable conditions. Some mass meat places are pretty good. Those places will have a shit ton of land to pasture them though (pic). It is the places that cram them into smaller spaces that are terrible. If it is terrible for the animals health then it is more than likely terrible for your health because healthy animals don't need say...antibiotics.
>I don't really like natural chicken meat because it's tougher. This is a myth. It depends on chicken breed, age, and butchering/storage/cooking methods. The Cornish X Rock breed of broiler chicken goes from egg to butcher in only 6 to 8 weeks. Which is why it is the #1 meat chicken you can buy in stores/restaurants. They are super young and literally do nothing but eat and give themselves heart attacks if you don't hold the food back and kick them out to forage. Their meat will be very tender, as will any other breed butchered super young. Only these get massive, unlike the other breeds. So, if you raise other breeds you need to butcher later when they are finally big enough. As a result their meat will be slightly tougher, but not really noticeably so unless you do a side-by-side comparison. You can still raise Cornish X Rock yourself too (what a fucking nightmare that is).
