I find them great and from my anacdotical evidence (I own several pants and a jacket in g-1000 and have a lot of friends who own their pants) they hold up just fine. I have never had any problems with mine or heard about it from anyone.
As for properties - again, it's fucking polycotton. It's totally different from wool and comparring the two materials is retarded. Wool pants will be thicker and heavier but also warm and soft. G-1000 is on the other hand *a lot* stronger/more durable than wool, dries quicker and is water repellant to some degree because of the waxing. One is a warm, insulating fabric, the other is a though shell-fabric. Both have their uses, but they are totally different.
