I'm thinking about implementing the same teqnique the Swedish Army uses when we're out on missions,
basically put thin green metal wire around your base, connect it to a whistling rocket engine thing strapped to a tree (pic related),
thus if anything wanders into your set space the rocket will go off whistling like crazy, scaring the shit out of the animal but also you while you're comfortable sleeping.
