>>1293569It was a great year, though. I hiked more in that year than I ever did and saw a lot of wilderness. I read a lot in my down time. There was no internet in the forest so I'd spend my time in town buying books and downloading movies and TV shows on my laptop for when I didn't want to hike every day but didn't want to return back to town either.
We generated enough electricity to charge our laptops using the van (easy to hook up) and even had a tiny microwave. We drank a lot of shitty instant coffee. We made campfires, listened to music and drank beer at night. The van space only becomes crowded if you don't do things... so if you like to hike a lot, you'll enjoy the experience. The more lazy you are, you more you will hate it. Straight up, it's miserable in the summer if you're not somewhere particularly cool, invest in good ventilation and a fan and camp outside when it gets too humid (we had a ceiling fan but that part was still shit).
You don't need a lot of stuff. You'll probably eat a lot less (I lost 25 pounds over the course of the year). You'll feel like you're going crazy some days but, that's life. 95% chance you wont do it forever or a long time, but thats alright. Make sure you have spare time and most importantly, don't waste it. Good luck to anyone who decides to do it. It's extremely worth it if you enjoy getting away from it all, even if its not forever.
