You may find this interesting. It's my very American tackle bag (a Plano widely available at any Walmart) and an American-made tenkara rod. That was my first time trying it out on the bluegill at that lake (it worked).
I've now gotten into buying Japanese-made seiryu and tenkara rods, and generally I now use my tenkara rod in the mountain streams near where I live.
