>>306944Yeah, I grew up on 6+ acres of mixed forest/hobby farm backed against dense forest on Vancouver Island in Canada. Most of my childhood was spent outdoors. First pocket knife at 6, first machete (a nice 30 incher with the handle) at 8; felt a lot more secure against cougers etc after that. I spent most of my free time blazing trails, climbing trees, building a network of 'forts', stuffing my face with wild food, and pretending I was Robinson Crusoe. God damn I miss it sometimes. Spent a couple years in a laid back Junior Forest Wardens group, but it was pretty tame, still went on some good trips though.
I'd happily get a horse, donkey, and fuck off into the rockies in B.C. (With good gear and saved money of course) to pan out streams for a decade, but it would break the hearts of some family. For that to be mitigated I must first earn a tidy domestic set up as a home base to ease their worries. Besides, I've got to have somewhere to put my books (pic related- not this many in my collection yet.) and other things. I've resolved to not rent when possible to speed this goal into realisation. This means living wild(ish). To be honest, OP wishes western economies would tank and reset already so he didn't have to keep up this charade for another 5-10 years. For now I bury my head in intellectual persuits.
