Sure, population density is kind of high and all land including forest is used agriculturally with very few exceptions - but with the way agriculture and forestry are working in southern Germany ( for the most part still family owened, small plot farms), I really wouldn't call much of the fields and woods around here 'industrial'.
I live in Northern Bavaria ('Franconia') and while the area immediately around my hometown is rather flat farm land, there are some nice medium high mountain ranges (500 - 1000m) to the West, North and East. No real wilderness, of course, and geomorphology doesn't allow for much in the way of interesting rock formations either, but what we've got are plenty of ruins of old castles that make for nice destinations for dayhikes...
Some 100km to the East there is also the 'Franconian Switzerland', where you can go rock climbing, caving and kayaking... so that's where I usually head to when I have time for more than a day hike.
