You don't need to worry about it getting wet and failing on you in the middle of a snowstorm, or some little plastic bit breaking on you or something.
They aren't complicated, but they still take a bit of practice to use well, and the more experienced you are with them the more likely you are to succeed in a hypothetical situation where your life is on the line and you need a fire to survive.
Bics are way easier and still generally plenty reliable, usually more than enough for normal outings, but a survival tool you don't know how to use won't help you so if you're carrying it around as a backup anyway you might as well get some practice in.
And if you're talking about "survival" youtube channels or something, of course they're going to be emulating the "survival, need to use backup firestarter" situation.
Real OGs use a flint and steel anyway
