I remember renting a cabin out near Showlow/Pinetop, I hiked for almost everyday I was there. I mean sure it was a little hot but the breeze and the shade from the trees made it so much better, would hike for hours on end and be happy while doing it. Even followed game trails up a mountain once or twice.
