OhShit: Have a small number of run ins with the Police, German were pretty chilled and just made sure we weren’t Romanian copper thieves, UK cops are usually cool too when you can talk them round and they’re happy you’re not doing illegal things. French are not so cool.
Advice:
Don’t go alone, take a torch, take a mobile phone, don’t take stupid shit like lockpicks, knives / multitools or even matches / lighters unless you’ve got cigarettes too. Shoes are important, I use approach boots that are gore tex lined, solid enough toe for climbing plus they’ll keep you dry. Gloves too, those thin, lightweight builders gloves with the grippy palm are perfect.
