>>305695I've been using beetle spins successfully. With the water still being fairly cool I've just been slow-reeling them barely quick enough to keep them off the developing coontail. Of course my strategy will have to change as things continue to warm up and the aquatic plant growth becomes thicker. That leads to what I've heard from many others.
Multiple folks have told me weedless, top-water lures are the way to go. People seem to lean mostly toward ordinary weedless frogs ("scum frog", "grass frog", spro and such). They head to shallows where cover can be found and pull'em over the grass flats and along the edges of crops of lilypad just like you would if you were targeting largemouth. I'd put money on it something with a bit more action would probably help even more to provoke a bite. Weedless Frog Poppers come to mind.
Bite also seems to pick up during the night/low-light conditions but they'll still bite in the middle of the day.
