>>72817. They are NOT required for taking pictures of mountains or landscapes, in my experience. And even if you are actually at the base of a mountain and want to take a picture of the whole thing, you can just stitch together a panorama of 4-6 shots at a longer focal length. I've done it, and you can get some super high resolution wide angle images this way.
