>>1347670depends on where you /out/, as far as I know tolkien modeled middle earth on england and parts of europe. my guess is that strider was never more than 1/2 a day out of a town or hamlet. I would think though, here in a place like canada you would need more gear, I have traveled the distance of the northern most point of britain to the southern most point without seeing another human other than my traveling companion, not passing through a town, settlement or city, or leaving the province.
