>>1174221U can sharpen a knife with a rock u found on the ground. But a good whetstone works better, especially on harder steels. I use expensive naniwa stones on my vg10 steel cooking knives. They work much better than cheap stones and last waaaaaaaay longer. Best combo is 1000/3000 grid. I use 1000 and 5000 grid, which is also good. But anyway 1000 grid is the first choice if u buy a stone. Most standard ceramics (like cups) are 1000 grid, use bottom to sharpen. What else can I say? If u like to sharpen get a good stone or two, they will last long and make it a joy to sharpen your knives.Especcially the high grids are fun, polishing is very satisfying, at least to me. O and get a flattening stone too, cheap but very handy (grey thing pictured on the right). Bottom line if u own knives and dont know how to sharpen I pity you.
