>>1745723Pictures capture the general shapes, but no the scale. That's the problem, and I think it's why the appalachian mountains get such a bad rap. They are covered in forest and have less jagged features, so they appear very hill-like in photographs, but they are very impressive when seen in person. I am constantly debating my friend from Colorado who is in the "Appalachians are just big hills" camp. I've been to the rockies, sierras, and appalachians, and I'd rank the rockies last. They photograph well, but there's just way less going on when you get up in the mountains there. Sierras have the best of both worlds imo, but I'll take going /out/ in appalachia over the rockies any day.
