Milsurp is bit knowing your way around. For example old Swiss backpacks make for some of the finest and durable daypacks ever built. Also own an old Swiss surplus wool jumper, insane quality! 50's-70's Euro conscript gear is usually top quality when it come to personal items.
Useful modern stuff includes fleece sleeping bag inlets, fleece midlayers, softshell uppers, boots (some are great, many are garbage), watch caps, belts, socks and gloves.
Polycotton milsurp jackets are a bit meh, they work great for light stuff, but for prolonged cold&wet they are a pita and you'd likely be better of with some 50's wool tunic. Army ponchos are same same, they work A for when you stationary like fishing or hunting, but they are a bitch to rig for long hikes and you likely sweat like a bitch.
milsurp tents, tools & kits, backpacks and sleeping systems are usually heavy and dated, and with a bit of common sense you'll get a better civilian options for about the same price.
