>>379943Kansas native here as well! Grew up in Wichita, currently live in Kansas City (further away from my beloved mountains). Longs Peak was an unlucky one to pick especially for some Kansas boys who live at 500 feet of elevation year round (such as myself). Did you drive up to Colorado and immediately try to climb Longs? Because if you did this even some of the most in shape people would have trouble finishing a 14er on their very first time. You need to take about a week to acclimatize, preferably at about 8,000 feet so your body can get used to the lack of oxygen. You were basically dead in the water especially if you hadn't ever tried a 14er. They're not Mt. Everest but they're still pretty difficult.
Are you planning on going on some more? I hope so, it'll definitely go better the second time around now that you know what you're dealing with. They are so worth finishing!
