I've always hated tilling so I never bothered. I suck at composting so I would always just pile crop residue on top as mulch and bury food scraps in the garden bed. Rows of the same plant look ugly to me so I would always sloppily plant everything mixed together. Recently went down a wikipedia rabbit hole and it turns out that I've been a no-till, sheet-mulching, Ruth Stout-composting, polyculture-tending permaculturist without realizing it. It seems all the cool shit I do, I do completely on accident.
