I don't fish often, but my uncle does around Lake Butler in Florida. What he does is goes to walmart and buys 3-4 of those cheapo 7 dollar poles, that work for a year or two until they break, and he'll get in his boat and cast all the lines out over the side. Then he'll drift with the wind across holes.
He claims that the action of the bait constantly moving in a mostly uniform direction causes the fish to "commit" to the food, as that may be the only chance it gets. On a good day, he'll pull in 10+ perch in a few hours, and in a bad day, 3-4.
