The band was tacky so I replaced it with a nice horse hair band and a cute turkey feather.
Works great in the rain. However I found the curved brim to be extremely annoying in the sun, so I just flattened it today. Otherwise if I turn my head to the sun, my eyes would get washed by light, which is not the point of a hat.
The band on the inside that touches your head is very comfortable, and it stays on even in the wind.
I have a basic inexpensive straw hat for summer, but it's made of poly so it doesn't fall apart.
I am thinking about getting a Portuguese style hat (round crown, shorter and flat brim) for going out to town. The Snowy River is my chore and hiking hat, and I could dress it up I guess but I have some pretty formal clothes where it would look out of place with.
