I shoot rabbits and gray squirrels with an air rifle here in the UK. Also some birds but mostly rabbits and squirrels. I do it for a collection of farmers and land owners*. You don't need anything fancy, just an air rifle and some old dark clothes. I eat a lot of them and give them away. My girlfriend and mum made ~300 pies this summer for a charity thing using up a lot of my chest freezer meat.
I also have a shotgun and license for the occasional deer but that's a few times a year and gets more expensive with the traveling and such.
*The number one question I'm asked is how to get permission to hunt on someone's land. I simply went with friends who introduced me and just made a good name for myself. Always offer some dressed rabbits to the owner of the land.
